STUDENT ADVANCEMENT POLICY

RATIONALE

The College recognises the individual nature of each child.  The educational program offered by the College allows students to progress at their own rate of learning, rather than needing to be tied to a particular age group.

Whilst the College recognises that students work best within their own peer groups it also recognises that it is in-appropriate to solely advance students according to age without sufficient recognition of their academic level of achievement.

IMPLEMENTATION

This College recognises the individual academic progression of each student. The decision on the advancement of each student is made only after a consideration of all the needs of the student and in full consultation with the parents of the student.

Because of this recognition, Primary students are progressed through their primary years of schooling according to a combination of their age level (to keep them with their peer group) and their academic level, while Secondary students are primarily progressed by their academic level with some consideration of their age grade level.
